REVIEW: The Ghost – Chosen by Rudi Theme: Cylons, Whoopi Goldberg, Bassets. Plot overview: THE GHOST mixes martial arts and international intrigue into a rather heady and entertaining movie. Chung Lai plays Jing, a legendary Chinese Tong assassin skilled in weaponry and martial arts. Completely loyal to the Tong, to whom Jing owes her life, she immediately accepts when the Tong ask her to travel to America as an internet bride in order to make a hit on an American crime syndicate. However, Jing begins to experience doubts when she arrives in America, and wrestles with her loyalty to the Tong and her burgeoning sense of morality. Ant’s balanced view: If you were expecting ‘Demi Moore’ and ‘Patrick Swayze’ throwing clay pots together when you bought this film then quite honestly you should be tortured as A) The Ghost (as fore mentioned) is a totally shit film - utterly boring to the point of tears & B) You must be a total idiot to get it mixed up as ‘The Ghost’ features ‘Brad Dourif’ the Bogeyman of the shit film world. However the film does have some redeeming features, it does feature an ageing and awful looking Richard Hatch (Apollo from Battlestar gallactica), a fairly amusing but ugly Chinese woman that gets slowly converted from being a frigid ice maiden to a loose and easy pro capitalism house wife and a blackcurrant half eaten Jelly baby. Highlight really is that Dourif gets murdered though which is always a bonus. Overall a pretty mediocre film only worth watching if you have watched all of the classics and you don’t have anything else to do bar having a Tommy tank – which is I expect a better idea.
